Where is Gdansk ? : Gdansk , ville portuaire du nord de la Pologne anciennement nommée par les Allemands Danzig fut envahit par Hitler au 1er septembre 1939. Il voulait percer le couloir de Danzig pour obtenir un plus large accès à la mer. De nombreux combats ont eu lieu sur cette terre et à l’heure du bilan en avril 1945, la vie semble presque arrétée. Environ 90% du centre historique est totalement détruit. La visite de Gdansk ne nous donne certainement pas cette impression de ville entièrement détruite par la guerre. Les batiments dans le centre historique sont parfaitement rénovés. La rénovation a été amorcée en 1949 grâce à des documents d’époque et dura près de 20 ans. Gdansk fut aussi le berceau du mouvement « Solidarnosc » , grève menée par les ouvriers du chantier naval et notamment de l’électricien Lech Walesa qui obtînt le prix nobel de la paix et devînt le premier président de la Pologne élu démocratiquement au suffrage universel.

Many battles have taken place on this land and at the end of the war, life seemed almost stopped. About 90% of the historic centre is completely destroyed. The visit to Gdansk certainly don’t give this impression of a city totaly destroyed by the war. The buildings in the historic centre are fully renovated. The renovation was initiated in 1949 through papers and then lasted nearly 20 years. Gdansk was also the birthplace of the movement “Solidarnosc”, strike waged by workers of the shipyard, including the electrician Lech Walesa who had the Nobel Prize for peace and became the first president of Poland democratically elected by universal suffrage.

Port de Gdynia : Gdynia est une ville portuaire nouvelle située à 30 minutes de Gdansk et près de Sopot. Cette ville n’est pas aussi gracieuse que ses voisines notamment par le développement de building non réjouissant à deux pas de la plage qui malheureusement surplombe quelque peu la mer.
Gdynia is a new port city located about 30 minutes from Gdansk and near Sopot . This city is not as graceful as its neighbours in particular by developing non-pleasing building near the beach which unfortunately somewhat overlooks the sea.
